About

We built the platform
Open Dental practices needed.

Two products, one platform, built specifically for the PMS with the best API in dental software — and almost nobody using it well.

Jorge Alfonso, founder and CEO of Pulse Dental

I've spent the last decade inside dental — first on the operator side helping multi-location groups run their books, then building internal tools for the offices that needed something better than the report-export-into-Excel ritual. Pulse is the third time I've sat down to solve this exact problem, and the first time the technology around me was good enough to actually do it right.

The thing I keep coming back to is that running a dental practice is operationally harder than running a comparable retail business, and the software running it is ten years behind. The owner shouldn't need to be the data analyst, the billing coordinator shouldn't need to be the appeals writer, and the CPA shouldn't need to reconcile EFTs against ClaimPayments by hand. Each of those gaps is a missing product. Pulse is shipping them.

I write the spec on a whiteboard. I do the customer calls. I read every release note before it goes out. That's the version of this company that I'm trying to keep — small, sharp, and close enough to customers that you'll see your name in our changelog when we ship something you asked for.

Mission

Ship the platform Open Dental practices needed ten years ago.

Every dental practice we've worked with is held together by a billing coordinator with a paper printout and three browser tabs. We don't think that's how a $200B industry should run. The mission is to build the operating system every Open Dental practice deserves — practice-grade, agent-native, on-prem-first, and opinionated enough to make the right decision when the customer doesn't have time to think.

Principles

Four things we won't compromise.

01

Practice-grade

Built for the office that has to bill insurance Friday at 4pm. Not a demo-day darling. Every screen survives an angry billing coordinator on a 13-inch laptop.

02

Agent-native

Pulse is wired for AI agents — Remy uses tools, cites sources, and writes back to OD only with explicit confirms. AI isn't a chat field bolted on; it's the default substrate.

03

On-prem-first

The Pulse Connector lives on your OD server. Aggregates compute locally; PHI stays inside your network unless you opt into Tier 2. Cloud-only was the easier path. We didn't take it.

04

Opinionated

Pulse picks defaults — for surfacing rules, for adjustment policies, for what the dashboard shows you at 7am. We resist the urge to ship configurability for its own sake. If it should be in the product, we put it in. If it shouldn't, we say no.

The long horizon

One platform for every dental workflow.

Insights and Remit are the first two products. The roadmap, in public order: Recall (patient-retention loops that don't feel like spam), Retention (the case-acceptance and reactivation desk), Front Office (Remy answering patient questions with citations, not vibes), and Clinical Ops (perio charting that talks to insurance pre-auth in one motion).

Every one is the same shape: a real workflow, automated end to end, with an agent-native interface and an audit trail your CPA already trusts. Same login, same data model, one bill.

Every Open Dental practice we talked to needed the same two things — a real-time view of what was happening across the office, and a way to recover the insurance money already owed to them. Nobody was shipping both halves of the problem.

The existing tools were either built for a previous era (Jarvis, Practice by Numbers) or focused on growth coaching rather than deep PMS integration (Dental Intelligence). Nobody was building for Open Dental specifically. Nobody was building the revenue half at all.

So we did. Insights launched first — KPI dashboards, multi-practice rollups, AI-generated weekly digests grounded in your own data. Remit follows as the revenue desk: automated ERA posting, EOB parsing, denial appeals, bank reconciliation, all written through the Open Dental API with every action mirrored to OD's SecurityLogs.

We're a small team — senior engineers, dental-industry operators, and a couple of practice owners who keep us honest. We hire deliberately. We ship deliberately. We bill predictably.

We don't want to build the cheapest tool. We want to build the one your practice keeps for ten years.

How we work

Built deliberately, for one PMS, on purpose.

Pulse goes deep on Open Dental instead of broad across every PMS. That's the trade-off we made on purpose. It lets us write the EOB attachment, dual-write the audit trail, and trust the read-side SQL — the things a multi-PMS vendor can't.

Per-organization pricing instead of per-payment or per-seat. Audit trails that hold up to a CPA's review. AI that cites its sources. A UI you'd actually enjoy looking at. The platform built the way dental software should have been built.

hello@alfoai.com

We're hiring senior engineers, a dental-ops lead, and a sales engineer who has actually sat behind a billing coordinator's shoulder. If that's you, write us.

Come work with us.

We're a small team of senior people — dental-industry ops, payer infrastructure, frontend craft, and HIPAA-grade backend. We hire deliberately and we pay well.
